I puked on New Years Eve...

but unfortunately, it wasn't from alcohol.
Turns out Darvoset makes me nauseous too! I knew Vicodin made me sick, so I made sure to ask for different pain meds... well now I know darvoset doesn't work either. I spent New Years Eve in a puking haze. After two doses of darvoset, I switched to advil which doesn't make me sick, but isn't very strong either.

It's been a little over 72 hours since my Lap, and I'm just starting to feel somewhat "normal" again. I was figuring I would be up and about by now (trip to Vegas was cancelled :-(), but no such luck. That being said, I can't really complain too much because besides the persistent cyst, everything else looked good. No endo!

A little recap of the surgery:
I arrived an hour an a half early to sign papers and prep for surgery. I was pretty nervous and didn't sleep well the night before surgery. Nurse Nancy was extremely sweet, and went over the entire procedure, so I was feeling a little better by the time my Ob arrived. Nurse Nancy and her assistant prepped me for surgery; she inserted my IV, loaded me up with blankets, and gave me "circulation socks" to help with the blood flow to my legs. I was told it may take a couple hours depending what was found. I met with the anesthesiologist who reviewed some medical questions and then I was off to surgery. Once I was in OR I was given general anesthesia and woke up about an hour later. I barely remember Dr. B reviewing the surgery, so it was a good think my dh was there to take notes. Basically, he made three incisions; one in the belly button, one (largest one) at the top of my pubic line, and one to the left of my pubic line.
Dr. B was able to remove the cyst from my left ovary, and he found no endometriosis. He showed me photos from the surgery, and although my ovary was cauterized, he told me there shouldn't be any permanent damage. I have an post-op appointment next week, and I'm hoping I'll get the thumbs up to move forward with an IUI.

Next post I'll cover my recovery, but for now I need to lay down - damn shoulder pain!

  1. Oh no!! Throwing up is no fun... well, unless its worth it with a baby in the belly! Yay for no endo! I hope you get to do your IUI and see your BFP shortly after!

  2. Darvocet and Vicodin are essentially the same drug. Or at least they contain the same two main active ingredients (propoxyphene napsylate or hydrochloride bitartrate and acetaminophen). I'm not sure I've ever known anyone who DIDN'T get nauseous from one if they got nauseous from the other! I'm a little annoyed that your doc prescribed you Darvocet knowing that you have an adverse reaction to Vicodin...

    Sorry you were sick!

  3. Me, I too was surprised to find out they were basically the same thing. I even had a wristband stating I had a adverse reaction to Vicodin, and it was the nurse who prescribed it. Do you happen to know of another med. for pain? I'm trying to find something (as strong) that doesn't make me nauseous.
    Thanks!
